Double fronted Victorian house – Easy as Sunday morning but, what do you do when gummy and wet. You’ve been reading Sunday papers, drinking more coffee than is good for you and being rule out to go back to sleep? Of course, you are dealing with a job that you have been procrastinating for long. So, last Sunday saw me sorting through a shoebox filled with old photographs – the exact moments that made you smile, cry and remember.

One of the photos I found among the collections was my grandmother’s house in Lauriston Gardens, Edinburgh. When I see it so many childhood memories start flooding back. When we were very young, my sister and I would be taken to the Flying Scotsman from London Charing Cross Station. Edinburgh Waverley Station for a holiday with my Grandmother. Right next to double fronted Victorian house in the shadow of Arthur’s Seat.

During the 19th century double fronted Victorian house became the main type of new housing in the industrial city of Scotland. Three to five stories high with two to four flats on each floor. They are sometimes refer to as closing (a reference to the entrance that goes into the upper flats). We used to think the flat was very special because it had its own entrance door. Up ahead there is a narrow garden plant with ferns and raised bushes separated from sidewalks with low stone walls lined with cast iron fences and rail heads.
